TEACHING PROGRAMS

IMG_8066

This is a great opportunity for interns with an educational background to learn the basic fundamentals of teaching a class while simultaneously gaining some invaluable experience in their desired professions. As an intern, you can explore the numerous affecting the education of Tanzanian youth as well as the current lack of teachers in the country’s rural areas.

In this project, interns will teach English to nurseries, primary and secondary schools throughout Tanzania – teaching children ranging in ages from 6-16 years old. Primary working under the guidance of the schools’ directors, interns teach in rural schools.

Skills/Qualifications.

There are no specific qualifications needed to join the English – Teaching project in Tanzania. However, interns are expected to be fluent in English. Teaching experience will be helpful (but not required).

Interns responsibilities:

Interns will primarily work as English instructors either in private or public schools as well as schools run by regional orphanages.
Interns will teach English for 2-3 hours each day (six days a week) in addition to organizing extracurricular activities, games, art classes/lessons, singing, dance, etc. interns any also be asked to assist with various administrative duties as well as assist the schools’ English-teachers (note: each school has at least one English –teacher).

In the internship, you will select a particular area of interest related to teaching English and explore the issue further with the help of an assigned supervisor. Please note: the project supervisor DOES NOT develop internships as this is up to the intern to get as much or as little out of their projects.
During the internship period, interns stay with a host family. However, an intern joining the orphanage project will stay at the orphanage’s compound.

We arrange a separate room for interns with shared bathroom facilities in host families as well as in the residential orphanage settings. Details pertaining to living accommodations will be provided in placement details prior to arrival in-country. Amani Hostel’s main offices are located in Arusha-allowing interns access to the local coordinator.).
