LAKE NATRON LODGE OR NGOSEK LODGE
Lake Natron Halisi Camp is located on a concession of 9 acres south of Lake Natron and the village of Engaresero. The camp’s location provides incredible views of Oldoinyo LEngai and the Rift Valley Escarpment. Enjoy sweeping views across the Lake and Oldoinyo Lengaiwith a sundowner as well as a bush experience far from the village and other camps.
The land belongs to the village of Engaresero, so that every guest staying at the camp is contributing to the development and wellbeing of thevillage and her people. Through your stay and the walks and activities you enjoy in the region, the people of Engaresero will derive direct benefit.
Lake Natron Halisi Camp is open all year. Although this camp does not move seasonally like in Serengeti, the concept is that we will leave the land and environment as we found it. This means solar energy, minimal water usage and measures designed to ensure the smallest carbon footprint possible, withoutcompromising on service and comfort.
Lake Natron is the only breeding ground in East Africa for 2.5 million Lesser Flamingo. The lake is a safe breeding location because its caustic environment is a barrier against predators trying to reach their nests. Natron is also dominated by the immense Oldoinyo Lengai volcano, which though still active, makes a challenging climbing experience for those fit enough to undertake it.
Close by there is a beautiful gorge walk to the Engaresero waterfalls for acooling swim, which when combined with a visit to the lake and the opportunity to experience Masai culture in the local villages, all make Natron an enchanting place to break a safari for two or three days.

At the lowest point of the Great Rift Valley in East Africa at an altitude of 600m above sea level, sits the shallow Lake Natron. Here, between the only active volcano in Tanzania, Oldonyo Lengai to the south, pinnacles of Mt Gelai to the east, the gorge etched escarpment of the Rift Valley to the west, and the mirror-surfaced lake, a sanctuary to thousands of flamingos to the north, is the cool oasis adjacent to the soda flats where Lake Natron eco-camp lies.
Our sister camp has 8 sleeping tents, one common tent with the bar, dining and lounge area, and one guide’s tent. The camouflaged Bedu tents were especially designed for the Natron area and patented by us. The Bedu tents help keep guests cool during the day and protect them from the occasional strong winds. Each tent is furnished with full size beds, quality linen and blankets, bedside tables, reading lamps, tables and chairs and has its own running water, shower and compost toilet tent. A private path leads from each tent to a natural swimming pool in the spring-fed stream.
Lake Natron Camp was founded by an eco-enthusiast Tim Leach, who invested a great deal of effort into protecting thisunique sensitive wetland environment.
Lake Natron Camp continues to be operated as a very low impact eco-camp, with many new improvements under new ownership and management by SUMMITS AFRICA
Lake Natron Camp consists of a 315 hectare concession area for conservation with the Engare Sero village and is physically protected from poaching and livestock over-grazing. The income generated by the community from tourism is used primarily for secondary school education. Thus, the concept helps to increase the value of the environment and its wildlife for the local masai village and provide the community with the incentive to further protect and cherish this wild area.
